Our team scored big-time with your open and honest interview with Esera Tuaolo ["Tackling Football's Closet," November 26]. What a hunk! Tuaolo really exemplifies those qualities that make a "hero" and is someone to look up to in the sports arena--someone who is macho on the gridiron and yet tender and loving with his supportive partner, Mitchell.

I have a lot of straight "jock' coworkers who took the time to read the article and gained more insight into what being gay really means. We are everywhere!

Your story about Esera Tuaolo and Mitchell Wherley was as good as it gets, both as a loving reality and as a miracle. Wherley's mother's prediction (and confusion) that "a Sarah" would show up in Mitchell's life--only to find that it was Esera instead--makes the story of Esera and her son one of the most remarkable and affirming to ever reach the news. They exemplify how love between two men can be as inherently illumined, as sanctified, and even as destined as any other. Thank you for this story, and God bless the Tuaolo-Wherley family.

I was thrilled to see Tuaolo on your cover. All gay people have a personal story about coming to terms with themselves. I consider Tuaolo to be genuinely heroic in facing the world in such a public manner after having lived such a carefully closeted life.
