Having sold the group's U.S. business in August 2001, Emap's operating profit from its continuing business increased by 23 percent to [pounds sterling]95 million ($149.2 million) on a turnover of [pounds sterling]477 million ($749.3 million) in the 6-month period that ended on Sept. 30, 2002.

Commenting on the results, Robin Miller, Emap's group chief executive, said: "We are pleased to be delivering an improved set of results in a difficult market.
