Sainsbury's Bank to Debut on TV

Sainsbury's Bank is launching its first ever TV ad, as part of its campaign to bring its brand in line with the main supermarket chain.

Drawing on the success of its supermarket advertising, the spot stars Jamie Oliver and one of his friends. Initially it appears to be about food, but is in fact about personal loan products.

In the ad, by Abbott Mead Vickers BBDO, Oliver's friend Andy asks for advice on what food to buy to impress a girl that is coming round to his home. It transpires that he doesn't have a fridge.

Oliver offers to write him a shopping list, which also lists a bank loan for a fridge. Andy visits a Sainsbury's branch and picks up a loan brochure, but on leaving the supermarket spots his dream car for sale. The ad concludes with Oliver asking Andy whether he filled up the fridge and Andy replying 'Ah, not exactly'.

The single ad is likely to be followed by further ads for Sainsbury's Bank's products, according to Tim Pile, chief executive of the bank. …
