In an age where real estate companies are constantly growing and merging, small, family businesses are no longer commonplace. However, at the Baltimore-based Wallace H. Campbell & Co., Inc., AMO[R], which handles investment real estate, leasing, sales, appraisals and consultation, family and business are interchangeable. Currently three generations of Campbells work together at the company, founder Wallace, a CPM[R] Member Emeritus, president and chairman of the board Bruce, a CPM[R] Member and executive vice president Curtis. Wallace, 90, visits the company's offices about twice a week and imparts much of his vast wisdom and knowledge to younger staff members, especially his grandson, Curtis.

"My granddad has forgotten more than I'll ever know," Curtis said. "Working closely with family on a daily basis has enabled me to learn a lot more quickly than either my father or my granddad were able to do."

An employee since 1993, Curtis wanted to enter the family business for as long as he can remember.

"I get to work closely with the two men I admire most," Curtis said. "I've learned not just about the real estate business but about life. …
