Snowy Peak leads the way in using merino fibres and possum fur in apparel. Its brands, including MERINOMINK, have won a succession of awards, and the group supplied garments for both the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) and APEC Summit held in New Zealand.

"The whole company is based on sustainability and was even before we heard the word," says Peri Drysdale, founder, owner and chief executive of the group, which now has over 120 employees. "It gives our staff a real sense of satisfaction about where they work."

The commitment was strengthened in 2000 when the company joined the Redesigning Resources Group.

"Its goal is to help members develop pathways to becoming sustainable, and to spread the learnings to help others. We joined because we'd decided to take these issues really seriously and knew that having the support of the group would help us move faster and further."

Involvement has been the key to implementing efficiency and sustainability throughout the organisation.

Company volunteers, formed special Sustainability Teams which met regularly--"often in their own time"--to come up with ideas.
