TO COMMEMORATE THE FIRST ASCENT OF the world's highest peak, the Royal Geographical Society (with IBG), Geographical, the Mount Everest Foundation and The Times newspaper are coming together to produce an exciting range of events, publications and programming, that will celebrate and re-create the climbers' spirit of adventure. You can become a part of history in the making by marking this special, once-in-a-lifetime occasion.

Royal gala celebration

"`Endeavour on Everest' at the Odeon Leicester Square promises to be an evening of drama, nostalgia, pride and joy," says legendary climber Sir Chris Bonington. Held on 29 May 2003--50 years to the day after Hillary and Norgay's extraordinary ascent--this Royal Gala evening will be an event not to be missed. The evening is being organised by the Mount Everest Foundation, the exploration charity of the Alpine Club, together with the Royal Geographical Society (with IBG). Veterans of the 1953 expedition, other climbing greats and many well-known faces will be attending. HM the Queen and HRH Prince Philip, patron of the 1953 expedition, have also been invited to attend.
