Capital Radio Appoints Ex-Lastminute Director

Capital Radio has hired former marketer Carl Lyons as marketing director for the Capital FM network, as it seeks to create a brand with strong local roots.

Lyons will report to managing director Andria Vidler and will head marketing for London's 95.8 Capital FM as well as seven regional stations, including Red Dragon FM in Cardiff, Beat 106 FM in Scotland and Fox FM in Oxford.

A key challenge for Lyons will be to continue the company's efforts to revive the fortunes of flagship station 95.8 Capital FM, which has seen listening figures for Chris Tarrant's breakfast show drop by 23% last year and the station's audience share drop to 8.8%.

Despite strong rumours of his departure, Tarrant stayed to front a relaunch of the breakfast show in January, which was sufficiently attractive to pull in Kellogg as a sponsor in a pounds 6m deal.

Lyons will also be responsible for agency relationships. Delaney Lund Knox Warren is the incumbent on the creative business, while ZenithOptimedia handles media. It is not clear whether Lyons will review these arrangements. …
