The Nigerian authorities have always warned people abroad not to involve themselves in get-rich-quick deals (popularly known as 419) with faceless Nigerians. A Czech national didn't listen, he got his fingers burnt and then, on 19 February, took his spleen on a Nigerian diplomat in Prague, shooting him dead.

A distraught Nigerian ambassador in Prague, Julie Jake Ayorinde (pictured right), has denied that Dr Jiri Pacosvsky who burst into the embassy on 19 February and shot dead one of her diplomats, L. M. Wayi (minister plenipotentiary), had any "business dealings" with the embassy.

"There is no iota of truth in the impression unfortunately created in some media that Pacovsky had some business dealings with this embassy. On the contrary, it was the deceased who had on several occasions attempted to stop Pacovsky from continuing with his fraudulent activities but to no avail. In fact the activities in Nigeria of Pacovsky were well known to the Czech authorities," Ambassador Ayorinde said in a press statement Pacovsky went to the embassy situated in one of Prague's leafy districts and calmly opened fire on the diplomat and another locally-recruited staff member. …
