Charles E. Davis, Department Chair, Walter Plumoff Professor of Accounting, was awarded an Outstanding Service Award by the Accounting, Behavior and Organizations section of the American Accounting Association at its research conference. Davis created the section's Web site in 1995 and served as its Webmaster until this year.


Kent Gilbreath, professor of Economics and Stevens Chair of Private Enterprise and Entrepreneurship, presented his research paper "Time Series Data and Comparative Growth Rates for College Professors' Salaries by Rank and Academic Discipline" at a meeting of the American Academy of Economic and Financial Experts in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Gilbreath also spoke to the Rotary Club of Clifton, Texas, on "The United States' Role in the Global Economy."

Kimberly Mencken, assistant director for Economic Education, accepted an award on behalf of the Baylor University Center for Private Enterprise for its five-year re-affiliation status by the National Council on Economic Education (NCEE) at the annual NCEE meeting in San Antonio, Texas. Mencken also chaired and presented at the meeting in a session entitled "Using NCEE International Travel Opportunities to Strengthen Ties Between Centers and Teachers." The session focused on the reciprocal study tour program offered by the NCEE. Mencken was one of five center directors from around the country chosen to participate in this program. She took four Texas teachers on a study tour to Lithuania in 2004, and then welcomed two Lithuanian teachers to Texas in 2005.

David VanHoose, professor of Economies and Herman W. Lay Professor of Private Enterprise, published "Openness, the Sacrifice Ratio, and Inflation: Is There a Puzzle?" in the 2006 edition of Journal of International Money and Finance, coauthored by Joseph Daniels of Marquette University. In the 2006 edition of the Journal of Banking and Finance, VanHoose published "Capital Regulation, Heterogeneous Monitoring Costs, and Aggregate Loan Quality," coauthored by Kenneth Kopecky of Temple University. In the 2006 edition of the European Journal of Political Economy, he also published, "Openness, Centralized Wage Bargaining, and Inflation," coauthored by Joseph Daniels and Farrokh Nourzad, both of Marquette University. VanHoose was also interviewed on the "Bob Rivers Show" about the Federal Reserve transition from Alan Greenspan to Ben Bernanke.


J.T. Rose, professor of Finance, Harriette L. and Walter G. Lacy, Jr. Chair of Banking, and department chair, published "The 'Lillie Mae': A Capital Investment Project in Riverboat Restoration," coauthored by Colene L. Coldwell, lecturer in Finance and Charles J. Delaney, associate professor of Real Estate in the Journal of Business case Studies.


Timothy Kayworth, associate professor of Management Information Systems, published an article in the acclaimed Journal of Management Information Systems titled "An Empirical Examination of the Influence of Organizational Culture on Knowledge Management Practices," coauthored by Dorothy Leidner, professor of Information Systems and Maryam Alavi of Emory University. Kayworth also wrote an article titled "A Review of Culture in Information Systems Research: Towards a Theory of IT Infusion," coauthored by Leidner. This article was published in 2006 for the MIS Quarterly Journal. In the July 2005 issue of the AIS Journal, Vol. 16, Kayworth published an article titled "What is a Chief Privacy Officer? An Analysis Based Upon Mintzberg's Taxonomy of Managerial Roles," coauthored by Dwayne Whitten of Texas A&M and Leslie Brocato.

Robin Wakefield, assistant professor of Information Systems, presented a paper titled "The Role of Switching Costs as a Higher-Order Factor" at the American Accounting Association Annual Conference in San Francisco, California. Wakefield also wrote "Measuring Switching Costs in IT Outsourcing Services," coauthored by Dwayne Whitten, which was accepted for publication in the Journal of Strategic Information Systems. …
