Artists with a Cause

NICASIO.... The annual Ranches & Rolling Hills show unfolds at Druid Hall this month. Since 1998, a select group of Marin County and Santa Barbara artists have participated in the landscape show. The artists are united by their desire to help preserve unspoiled California terrain for both human sustenance and artistic inspiration. The landscape paintings depict farms protected by the Marin Agricultural Land Trust (MALT) and ranches located in the Point Reyes National Seashore area. Zenaida Mott and Whitney Abbott are this year's featured painters. The show has grown in popularity, and last year proceeds totaling more than $500,000 were donated to MALT's farmland preservation program.

The show is accompanied by a 48-page color catalog with an essay by art critic Donald Kuspit. …
