In my five months as editor of this magazine, nothing has surprised me so much as the level of loyalty among Sunset readers. Not only do you renew in record numbers, but you care about and correspond with this magazine as if we were a good friend. That's why a few of you have been piqued over some changes that we've made in recent issues. First we changed the logo in June. Then we returned to saddle-stitch (stapled) binding when we changed printers in August. Some of you wrote or sent us e-mail, pro and con, about these changes.

Now, after this issue, I anticipate that the major changes are over for a while. Please take a look at what Jim McCann, our art director, has done to freshen up the inside of the magazine. We're running larger photos, we're including more service information in handy text boxes. We've improved the typography of the recipes-to make them easier to read. …
