Freedom Forum Closes Newseum, Cuts News

The Freedom Forums Newseum, an interactive museum devoted to journalism and located near Arlington, Va., will close March 3. The new Newseum will reopen in its home near the Capitol in 2005, The Associated Press reported.

"It's very difficult to focus on operating the old Newseum and building the new one at the same time," said Peter Prichard, president of the Newseum and the Freedom Forum. "We need to focus all of our energies on building the new Newseum."

The Newseum will be located on Pennsylvania Avenue across from the National Gallery of Art. The 555,000-square-foot complex also will include the Freedom Forums headquarters and international conference center, restaurant and retail facilities, and about 100 housing units.

Prichard estimated that the new building would cost $300 million to $400 million, including the $100 million for the property. …
