Posts Distribute 25,000 Wristbands

Prompted by a contest, the red troop-support bracelets were handed out worldwide.

VFW launched a "Battle of the Bands" contest in February to encourage Posts to distribute the red America Bands Together wristbands. Concluding on May 31, the contest proved successful, according to Ben Vargas, program coordinator in VFW's Development Department.

Some 208 Posts participated, distributing more than 25,000 wristbands. The winners received citations from VFW Commander-in-Chief Jim Mueller, as well as recognition on the program's Web site and in Checkpoint.

The winners from each of VFW's four conferences are listed at right. >Note that there are several ties in some categories.
