In this book written by a teacher for teachers, Mandel asserts that the Internet may prove to be "one of the saviors of today's educational system," allowing poorer school districts to supplement their curricular material, and permitting students to take trips anywhere in the world.

The book intends to show teachers how the Internet can be used in their classrooms. It is divided into two parts. The first part describes the background of using the Internet for virtual field trips, and the second is a step-by-step process for locating instructional Web sites, and then integrating them into the classroom.

In Part 1, the author includes a troubleshooting chart of potential problems in using virtual field trips (e.g. not enough time for the trip) and what can be done to avoid them. Another chapter offers information on locating material with search engines, subject-oriented Web sites, etc. Top Web sites for social studies are included in this chapter. Evaluation is covered in another chapter with a helpful chart on "Matching Your Evaluation to Your Goals," containing examples of a goal, type of evaluation, and general suggestions for evaluation. …
