At the table, or under it?

In order for HR to maximize its impact on the organization, HR-related issues and MR executives need to be "at the table." The subject is a perennial one, discussed in books, articles, chat rooms and even by the likes of Jack Welch. But professor and HR researcher Theresa Welbourne says her work has led her to frame the issue differently: Is MR at the table, or under it? If it's under the table, is it holding it up? Or is HR in hiding?

A Katrina partnership

With Hurricane Katrina a year behind them, organizations can reflect on lessons they have learned. One theme that has emerged is partnerships that saved organizations from going under. That process can be seen in the example of Baylor University's medical school in Houston, which took in 600 medical students from New Orleans' Tulane University, as well as faculty, allowing education and training to go on.
