Texas Preparing Two Manuals to Push Pharmaceutical Care

The Texas Pharmacy Association is using an award of more than $9,000 from Merck & Co. to develop two manuals on pharmaceutical care. The award was one of three monetary endowments to the National Council of State Pharmacy Association Executives announced at the recent annual meeting of the American Pharmaceutical Association in Los Angeles (see next two stories).

Kim Roberson, executive v.p. of the Texas Center for Pharmaceutical Care, a division of the Texas Pharmacy Association, said the manuals will be completed in the next 16 months and a copy will be distributed free of charge to every state pharmacy association in the country. The first workbook will be designed to help pharmacists position themselves to work as part of a multidisciplinary team providing pharmaceutical care.

The second manual will specifically address the needs of state pharmacy associations and what actions they need to take to ensure that pharmacists are successful in the developing pharmaceutical care market.

The Merck award will allow the association to push a plan it has had on the back burner for the past seven or eight months because of a lack of funding. …
