Watch a ballet legend dance his most famous roles In Jacques d'Amboise: Portrait of a Great American Dancer, an approximately 130-minute-long DVD highlighting selections from such ballets as Apollo, Afternoon of a Faun, Swan Lake and Sfars and Stripes. Of particular note is Apollo's opening scene of the god's birth, in which d'Amboise unwinds himself from the caul (a fabric binding his arms to his torso) by executing pirouettes. The DVD includes a March 2006 interview with d'Amboise, conducted by Ernest Gilbert. From Video Artists International. Info: www.vaimusic.com

In The Diary of Vaslav Nijinsky, newly edited by The New Yorker dance critic Joan Acocella, the famed Russian ballet dancer documents his decline. The account begins on January 19, 1919-the day of Nijinsky's last performance-and moves through the weeks that follow in a stream-of-consciousness narrative. The diary, originally published in 1936, was heavily edited by Nijinsky's late wife, Romola, who cut almost 40 percent of the work and reworded much of the rest. The unabridged verson is a provocative and illuminating look into the mind of a legendary artist. From University of Illinois Press. Info: www.press.uillinois.edu
