Chadwyck-Healey Launches Literature Online
Chadwyck-Healey has announced the launch of Literature Online (also called "Lion"), a Web site for English and American literature. According to Chadwyck-Healey, Literature Online is the largest, most integrated collection of literature and literature resources on the Web. It contains over 210,000 full texts of English and American poems, plays, and novels, including rare texts and all folio versions of Shakespeare's timeless works in fully searchable SGML format.
Literature Online combines top-quality commercial databases in English and American literature with the best of Internet resources and makes them all available on the Web. It allows users to search using Boolean and proximity operators, and each search index is browseable as well.
These Chadwyck-Healey literary fulltext databases are included:
English Poetry: Over 165,000 poems by more than 1,250 poets dating from 1100 to 1900
English Drama: 4,000 plays by 1,200 authors from the late 13th century to the early 20th century
Early English Prose Fiction: Over 200 complete works in fictional prose from the period 1500-1700
Editions and Adaptations of Shakespeare: 11 major editions from the First Folio to the Cambridge edition of 1863-1866, plus separate contemporary printings of individual plays; selected apocrypha; and related works, adaptations, sequels, and burlesques
