Is HR a 24-hour job? Or do you always leave work at work?

HR is never a 24-hour-a-day job. I'm sure we'll all agree! I may not physically take paperwork home with me, but some of my best decisions are made on my 20-minute drive to and from work. Before I close my eyes at night, I think about what has to be done for tomorrow and try to get things in order in my mind before I go to sleep.

We should role model a healthy balance between work and home life. The increasing complexity of everything we deal with and the personal drive to be competent require efforts that extend beyond the normal definition of a workday. Each of us should consider that our true value to our organization only can be realized if we maintain the balance of our emotional, physical and spiritual health.

There are very few professionals in the corporate arena today that have the luxury of always leaving work at work. To successfully meet the strategic goals of the corporation, while continuing to administer all the general functions that human resources is responsible for, there are more times than not when the midnight oil is burning brightly. …
