Entries Sought for Public Servants of the Year Awards 2007

The Public Servants of the Year Awards 2007 were launched this week with a new chair, revamped categories and an additional award for lifetime achievement.

Sir Ian Carruthers, the new awards' chair, told Public Finance he was delighted to take over from Sir Michael Lyons and wanted to encourage as many nominations as possible.

'We all know great nurses, teachers, police officers, caretakers, bus drivers and doctors. We also have experience of the work of many other public servants - from fire personnel to social workers, librarians to refuse collectors,' he said.

'I hope that you will nominate your Public Servants of the Year, so that they get the credit they deserve.'

Carruthers is joined by two new recruits to the Judging panel: Dame Jo Williams, the chief executive of Mencap, and Trish Haines, the chief executive of Reading Borough Council. Baroness Julia Neuberger, a former member and chair of the panel, has also returned.

All the awards categories are now pan-public sector and are open to both Individuals and teams. …
