The tenth annual ASC Summer Golf Classic was held on Sunday, June 27, at Camarillo Springs Golf Course, located near the Motion Picture Country Home and Hospital. Seventy-five golfers, including active members, associate members and guests, enjoyed warm morning sunlight and clear blue skies for the 18-hole tournament, which was organized by Richard Glouner, ASC and Howard Anderson, ASC. Glouner captured his unprecedented sixth championship trophy with a Low Net score of 70, fending off the ever-resilient Owen Roizman, ASC who had claimed the top prize the last two years. Roizman and the fast-rising Michael Watkins, ASC shared second-place honors with net scores of 72. Frank Johnson, ASC scored the Low Gross with an 83. Of the associate members, Doug Pentek scored a Low Net of 73. David Crandall topped the competition among the guests with a Low Net of 70, and Kathy Anderson triumphed in the ladies' competition with a Low Net of 72.

Net scores are determined by the Callaway Handicap System, enabling both high and low handicappers to compete for various honors, including closest shots to the pin. After the tournament, all of the golfers were treated to a catered lunch in the Camarillo Springs clubhouse. Winners were awarded at the wrap party, held on July 12 in the ASC Clubhouse.

The winners of the 20th Annual Student Academy Awards were hosted by three ASC members on June 11 at the Clubhouse. Cinematographers Woody Omens, John Bailey and Juan Ruiz-Anchia each gave a short lecture and then fielded questions from 11 young auteurs, who had won gold, silver and bronze medals in filmmaking from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences. The fledgling directors hailed from all over the United States and Mexico, and honed their talents at such schools as the University of Southern California, New York University, the University of Colorado-Boulder, the Rhode Island School of Design, and the California Institute of the Arts. …
