Members of the ASC will figure prominently in a series of seminars being presented in April, as part of the American Film Institute International Film Festival, according to Woody Omens, chairman of the ASC educational committee.

"We plan an ongoing program for the dissemination of information about our craft" Omens said. "And this is sort of the maiden voyage of our effort this year. We are glad to have an AFI forum for the start of our series."

Award-winning cinematographers will host one seminar. They include Joe Biroc and Vittorio Storaro, ASC members who have won Oscars. Emmy winners Bill Butler and Roy Wagner will be on the panel along with ASC Award winner Alien Daviau.

For a program titled "Image Builders," John Hora, ASC, and Joe Dante will discuss the director/cinematographer relationship. "Moving Portrait, the Art of the Close-Up" will feature lighting demonstrations by Stephen Goldblatt, Allen Daviau and Stanley Cortez, all ASC members.

"The Cinematographer - a Case Study" will feature clips from The Accidental Tourist, with ASC member John Bailey, who photographed that feature, being interviewed for the audience by Omens. …
