Interim Chair to Take over at Standards Committee

The controversial chair of the Committee on Standards in Public Life, Sir Alistair Graham, was finally replaced this week - by a temporary incumbent.

Rita Donaghy, who also chairs the arbitration service Acas and is a former president of the Trades Union Congress, takes over in a climate of uncertainty about the committee's future.

Last month, the committee expressed concerns that no arrangements had been put in place following Grahams departure. But after assurances from the government, they have accepted the interim arrangements.

But a spokesman for the body told Public Finance: 'The committee is looking for the appointment process to begin as soon as there is a new prime minister in place.'

Donaghy will serve until the end of the year, with the understanding that she will step down should a permanent chair be appointed before then. …
