As a school counselor working with teenagers and parents, I always was looking for age-appropriate materials for adolescents struggling with the separation and divorce of their parents. Lynne Casella-Kapusinski's book, "Now What Do I Do? A Guide to Help Teenagers with Their Parents' Separation or Divorce," is an excellent resource for teenagers and those who care about them.

The author writes from her own experience of her parents' divorce in language that is understood easily by teens and respectful of their experience. Each chapter offers solid background information on topics essential to understanding a teenager's perspective on divorce. These topics include feelings, blame, self-esteem, dealing with parents, anger, forgiveness, family and God. In addition, the author engages her readers with appropriate reflection activities.

In the chapter on self-esteem, for example, she invites teens to assess their level of self-esteem. Then she challenges each of them to get input from a close friend or family member. …
