* CORPS de Ballet International will present dancer, director and teacher Gemze de Lappe (above) with a lifetime achievement award on June 24. De Lappe danced with Michel Fokine, Agnes de Mille and American Ballet Theatre, portrayed Simon Legree in the Jerome Robbins-choreographed film version of The King and I, and performed in Broadway musicals such as Paint Your Wagon and Oklahoma! She went on to teach dance at Smith College and continues to stage works and teach nationwide. The award ceremony kicks off CORPS de Ballet International's ninth annual conference, which runs June 24-28, in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Info: www.corps-de-ballet.org

* Renowned ballerina Maria Tallchief (left) and master teacher Judy Rice are among those who will be honored at the Chicago National Association of Dance Masters' 95th annual awards banquet next month. Tallchief, an early muse (and wife) of George Balanchine and founder of the Chicago City Ballet, will receive CNADM's Lifetime Achievement Award. Rice, who teaches across the country and is associate professor of dance at the University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre and Dance, will receive the Artistic Achievement Award. The banquet will take place July 26 in Arlington Heights, Illinois, and will be held in conjunction with CNADM's Annual Summer Dance Workshops, July 23-30.

* Dance educators Douglas Nielsen (above right) and Linda Tamay will receive the American Dance Festival's 2007 Balasaraswati/Joy Ann Dewy Beinecke Endowed Chairs for Distinguished Teaching on June 10 at Duke University In Durham, North Carolina. Currently a professor at the University of Arizona School of Dance, Nielsen danced with Gus Solomons Company/Dance and Batsheva Dance Company. In 1987, he helped establish The Guangdong Dance Company, China's first modern dance troupe. …
