Two marvelous but somewhat different CD's by a 29 year old Norwegian whom I knew nothing about prior to receiving these albums for review. Now I do not think I shall ever forget him. This young man has marvelous control of the trumpet, plays with great feeling and is so honest in his playing. He just does not fall back on clichés but improvises well and takes chances. I shall get into this more later. His style I would describe somewhere between Chet Baker and Art Farmer but not a clone of either.

First we shall discuss Happy Days. This CD starts out not with an up tune but rather a brooding type of song. They handle it well. Here is where you begin so see the control he has of his horn holding those sustained notes. The next three tunes then are more upbeat and the quartet does them proud. …
