Here are two fine trio recordings. First what these recordings are not. Heart Beats is not some sloppy sentimental ride into nowhere and Newklear, subtitled The Songs of Sonny Rollins, is not some way out thing. I would consider both recordings very modern mainstream in nature. Well executed by each member of the trio listening very closely to what the other two are doing. My opinion of John Hicks just improved a great deal through having played these two discs repeatedly. …
