This is an international quintet made up of two Norwegians, two Czechs and one American. You really know that jazz is a language understood across cultures. Here is a solid group who play with an air of confidence and with no frills. The music consists of a several originals from the pens of the pianist, the bassist and also the leader, plus a Benny Golson chart and the title tune by Bill Kaper. My personal favorite on the CD though is the Thad Jones' tune H & T Blues.

Benny Bailey, born in Cleveland, Ohio in 1925, was a long-time resident of Amsterdam and died there in 2005, aged 79. Phil Woods once was engaged in a conversation and Bailey's name came up during that time. Phil went on for some time extolling the virtues of this underrated trumpet player. Benny did work in the big bands of Dizzy Gillespie and then later Lionel Hampton but he moved to Europe many years ago and thus not so well known in the states. …
