Qatar Airways Celebrates New Doha-to-DC Flights

QATAR AIRWAYS celebrated the launch of its new daily direct flights between Washington, DC and Doha, Qatar with a spectacular gala dinner on July 23 at the Mandarin Hotel in Washington, DC. A few weeks earlier, the luxurious carrier launched direct flights between Qatar and New York.

In his welcoming remarks, Qatar Airways Chief Executive Officer Akbar Al Baker promised the audience a night to remember-and no one was disappointed. Al Baker described the thrill of seeing the first Qatar Airways flight land at Dulles International Airport on the evening of July 19, to be saluted by the dramatic water arch from airport fire fighters that traditionally greet inaugural arrivals.

Emmy Award-winning reporter Meryl Comer was the master of ceremonies. She introduced CNN International TV presenter and host of "CNN Business Traveller" Richard Quest, who gave an entertaining but informative description of Qatar Airways. The award-winning 10-year-old airline currently flies to 78 destinations across Europe, the Middle East, Africa, the Indian subcontinent, Far East and now America, with a modern fleet of 58 Airbus aircraft which run on liquified natural gas instead of regular fuel. …
