In yet another show of grass roots support for Iowa's growing peace community, three Des Moines, IA rock and roll bands cranked up a room full of music for an appreciative crowd July 18 at the House of Bricks.

"We're here to rock for peace," said event organizer Jamie Woodson. "Obsidian's Dream, the Dharma Bums, and Steve Robinson and the Foundation have come together and donated their time and energy to help raise money for the Des Moines Peace Fair, and local comedian Doug Stone is here to emcee."

Woodson works with a coalition of local and national organizations, including Code Pink and the American Friends Service Committee, committed to ending the war in Iraq and creating a culture of peace.

"We're trying to get more young people involved in peace issues," Woodson explained, "and we have opportunities for them here to sign up and volunteer to spread the word about peace. …
