I must have a million photographs of the Evans family Christmases. We have always alternated locations every other year between my house in Chappaqua, NY, and my mom and dad's in La Grange, IL. But every 15 years or so we all go to my Uncle Ken and Aunt Julie's house in Columbus, OH-just to be fair! The yearly holiday crew is almost always the same, with five or six Evans families coming together. When I look carefully at all of the pictures, I can tell which house was hosting and see the years passing by.

The Santa blanket my mom gave me, the old ornaments from her native Denmark-each family hauls out the same decorations year after year. My immediate family adds a few new things every year to our eclectic mix of handmade, store-bought and precious hand-me-down holiday stuff. The Christmas storage spot in the attic of our house has grown and grown, and I get exhausted just thinking about the setting up and taking down of our collection. …
