Revise your plans. Instruct your executor to sell the practice or give it away. If you don't transfer ownership of the practice, the records remain in your estate.

Dealing with the records of a deceased doctor can be a hassle and a potential liability. Your widow, your heirs, or whoever the estate pays to assume the responsibility has to store them for as long as the statute of limitations is in effect for any treatment you provided.
