Exercise Tips for Couch Potatoes

We all know that regular exercise is important to our health, especially as we get older-but that doesn't make it any easier. It's a challenge to get started on an exercise regimen and even more of challenge to stick with it.

However, there are some simple strategies that can work for everyone, including "couch potatoes" who have not been exercising at all, says Julie McNeney of the International Council on Active Aging in Vancouver, British Columbia (www. icaa.cc).

"Start by moving during TV commercials," she suggests. "If you watch two hours of television and march on the spot or walk around the house during the commercials, you can accumulate 30 minutes of exercise. Once you get into it and find that you feel better, you'll want to start doing more."
