In the history of jazz we have a long standing tradition of dual instrumentation beginning with Joe "King" Oliver and Louis Armstrong. The tenor sax was not used early on but after World War II the use of two tenor players together became quite the thing with duos such as Wardell Gray and Dexter Gordon, Gene Ammons and Sonny Stitt, Al and Zoot but this combination of Griffin and Davis may be the most exciting of all. They sure generate a great deal of emotion on this particular disc. These two men have been recording together, off and on, since September 1960 so they should be able to manage a good session. …
