The prolific, Boston-based Carol Sloane has graced such labels as Concord, CBS, Toshiba, Choice, High Note, Progressive, Contemporary, Baybridge, Honey Dew, Trio, Moonbeam, and even Lobster, but she makes her recording debut on Arbors with this selection of Ellingtonia. Carol, following a stint with the Larry Elgart band while in her early 20s, recorded two albums for Columbia, Out Of The Blue (1961) and Live at 30th Street (1962) establishing her career as a nightclub and concert singer. With about twenty albums recorded over the subsequent years, this is her second tribute to Ellington, the first being a 1999 recording, Romantic Ellington for DRG, which featured some dubbed tenor sax work by Benny Golson. …
