1 In heavy fighting, two companies of the 23rd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division, reach the crest of Old Baldy and secure it from the Chinese People's Volunteer Army (CPVA), fighting off several counter attacks.

2 The CPVA/North Korean People's Army (NKPA) and United Nations Command (UNC) delegations return to the negotiation table at Panmunjom. The meeting contains little of note and consists mainly of communist name-calling and Maj. Gen. Harrison trying unsuccessfully to drive a wedge between the CPVA and the NKPA. The three other meetings in this month, spaced one every eight days, follow the same pattern.

4 With the help of extremely heavy and effective artillery fire, the 2nd Infantry Division repulses a CPVA attempt to retake Old Baldy. It is the enemy's last attempt to retake the hill in August.

5 South Korean president Syngman Rhee wins reelection. At the battlefront, the Republic of Korea (ROK) Capital Division seizes two CPVA outposts east of Kumsong. …
