Ishikawa awarded API fellowship

Tanya Ishikawa, editor of the Denver Urban Spectrum, was awarded one of 15 American Press Institute fellowships for the 2008 seminars in Reston, Va. Ishikawa, who is also a freelance writer for various Colorado publications, was selected for the Walter Everett Fellowship to attend the Interactive Community News seminar in March. The Spectrum is a Denver-based, independently owned, free monthly newspaper "Spreading the news about people of color." She has been a member since 2004.

Tallent named ombudsman for Spoken-Review

2007 SPJ Diversity Fellow Rebecca J. Tallent was recently named ombudsman for the Spokesman-Review in Washington. Tallent, an assistant professor in the School of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Idaho, was a member of SPJ's Ethics Committee from 1981 to 2001 and was co-author of the Society's updated national Code of Ethics in 1996. …
