Cinematically-minded Naval and Marine buffs will especially enjoy this very informative compendium highlighting the little known military backgrounds of many of the most popular foreign film stars of the pre- and post-WWII era.

Indeed, it is gratifying to learn that many well known actors who plied their craft on both sides of the Atlantic - such as David Niven, Alec Guinness, Herbert Marshall, Sir Cedric Hardwicke and Trevor Howard - to mention a few -- were true-life heroes who distinguished themselves above and beyond the call of duty in military service. Inside its pages the reader learns how Niven became a commando; Guinness skippered a landing craft; Marshall lost a leg in combat; Hardwicke returned from France gassed and shell-shocked, and Howard volunteered for the airborne Red Berets.

This volume is the last in a recent series produced by James E. Wise with a cadre of dedicated co-authors. Each volume catered to a specific service - the first being those film celebrities who served in the US Navy; then the Marines and Army, and now the international stars. Each is a definite "must" in any film library for the series also attempts to rectify many erroneous beliefs about some actor's military accomplishments.
