The Desperate Housewives star talks fine wines, bean sprouts, and a memorable night at Hearst Castle INTERVIEW BY PETER FISH

BEST ROAD TRIP Driving from San Diego up the California coast. Each of the towns on Highway has its own personality: Cambria, San Luis Obispo. I love getting in the car and just going.

ON RESEMBLING HER HOUSEWIVES CHARACTER God, no. My house is so messy. I know women like that, but I'm not one of them.

SPENDING THE NIGHT AT HEARST CASTLE I bid for it at a charity auction. We got to stay in one of the casitas and swim in the Neptune Pool and the mosaic Roman Pool. It was like a dream. I always felt that, in another era, I would have been one of Hearst's visitors there. But the Neptune Pool is very cold.

FAVORITE FOOD ESCAPE Napa Valley's Yountville. That main street, Washington-you can eat at every restaurant on that street and be very, very happy, starting with the French Laundry, of course.
