Cheryl Sparkman, director of the Division of Economic Assistance at the Mississippi Department of Human Services, was chosen as one of 50 Top Businesswomen in Mississippi for 2007. The Business Woman of the Year program honors the achievements and contributions of women in business from across the state. She is among the latest group selected by the Jackson-based Mississippi Business Journal for her tireless efforts during the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. As the division director for economic assistance, she not only had direct responsibility of mass care sheltering and feeding of evacuees, she also had direct oversight of the soon-to-be largest undertaking ever in Mississippi, providing emergency food stamp benefits to current recipients and a federal disaster food stamp program that would expand to operations in 23 counties.

Kevin Ryan has left his position as the N.J. commissioner of children and families to oversee work in Newark and Africa with the MCJ and Amelior Foundations.

Mary Ann Daniels has left the newly created position of Mercer County, Pa., human services director to take another job. She was serving as human services director as well as continuing as director of the county's Children and Youth Services. …
