I must admit I was not familiar with Cynthia Sayer but a glance at Lord's Discography shows she has been on the scene for some time and various settings. I soon found out that I was dealing with a very talented musician. Her arrangements alone are imaginative and fresh. Add a pleasant singing voice and a tasteful playing of an instrument that I must admit having some hang-ups from some very poor experiences on some recordings. If you are like me, I may add that she has recorded since the early 1980's with the likes of Dick Wellstood, Dick Hyman and Doc Cheatham.

I have two favorites in this album. The one, Over the Rainbow and the other Dark Eyes. On the former she sings the verse which I like and there is a cameo appearance of a harpist, Susan Taylor. Also this is entirely a string effort (no horns). It is just done so very tastefully throughout without a hint of the Judy Garland classic rendition. The latter just swings like crazy. Bucky Pizzarelli should have special mention on both of these tunes and for that matter, throughout the album. …
