You'd never know it from the title, but this release contains, all the marvelous big band recordings that Woody made for Philips Records in the early sixties, recordings that many of us begged repeatedly for some label to put on CD. So that you can match the titles to your collection, I've organized the selections as issued in the five Philips LPs and one 45 single. Mosaic includes the liner notes for each LP, written by Willis Conover, Ralph J. Gleason, Herb Wong, Leonard Feather, and the producer of the Philips albums, Jack Tracy - all outstanding jazz writers. They also got Tracy to write a very interesting addendum that details how the Philips recordings came to be. …
