Here is one hour of fine music headed by a rare musician in jazz, a bebop clarinetist. No point in going into a long dissertation about Mr. DeFranco. Safe to say he worked in so many venues and with so many giants of jazz that it would almost seem impossible to do that much in one life time and he is still going about his trade as this present release attests brilliantly.

The sidemen on this date were chosen carefully and fit into the music that the leader wanted us to experience. Lou Soloff has been on hundreds of sessions himself and while not possessing the resume as large as the leader, is very impressive too. Joe Cohn comes from a great heritage including his illustrious late father. Howard Alden only played with just about everybody in the last several decades and the rhythm section is just first rate. …
