In addition to supervising archival releases, Sue Mingus, the widow of Charles Mingus, continues to work with a series of ensembles devoted exclusively to his music. The main vehicle is the Mingus Big Band, and their latest Sunnyside release captures the unit Live in Tokyo. A degree of continuity with the past is represented by trumpeter Jack Walrath, the only player in the current band who performed regularly with Mingus and also a member of the Mingus quintet that toured Japan in 1976. …
