Booklist and NoveList Partnership to Focus on Readers' Advisory Services

Booklist and CARL Corporation have announced a new initiative aimed at supporting and strengthening readers' advisory services in libraries. Booklist, the American Library Association's flagship review journal, will develop several new features aimed to support the needs of readers' advisors.

These features, along with more of Booklist's highly regarded reviews, will be integrated into NoveList, CARL Corporation's electronic readers' advisory resource. A committee of some of the most recognized readers' advisors in the country will contribute to this cooperative effort.

When NoveList was first introduced into the library market in March 1994, the product contained 1,200 full-text adult fiction reviews from Booklist, according to the company. The number of Booklist reviews contained in the product has grown steadily since NoveList's introduction. Duncan Smith, NoveList's creator and product manager, said: "Bill Ott and Booklist have been supporters of NoveList since its beginning. I am very happy that Booklist has chosen NoveList as its electronic partner in this effort to support one of our users' most valued services."

Smith also pointed out that Booklist's recent Mystery Showcase issue (April 15, 1997) was one example of the kind of new editorial content that library staff could expect from the journal. …
