As I write this forward, I am currently in Milwaukee, Wis., at the 2008 AG Bell Convention. This four-day event has been an incredible experience, meeting and talking to many of you and watching all attendees rally around a spoken language outcome for those who are deaf and hard of hearing. The theme of this year's Convention was "No Better Time to Celebrate Spoken Language." And, truly, the atmosphere in Milwaukee has been a festive one. This was my first convention and it was inspiring to see how dedicated each member is to advancing AG Bell's mission of advocating independence through listening and talking.

In "Celebrating Spoken Language," Director of Communications Catherine Murphy and I summarize the highlights of this year's convention. In addition to AG Bell's response to the demonstrations taking place, we review the highlights of the education program and summarize AG Bell's new President John R. "Jay" Wyant's vision for the future of the association. Stay tuned to www.agbell.org for a photo essay of the 2008 AG Bell Convention.

Also featured in this issue is Kathy Sussman in "Honors of the Association 2008 Recipient." Kathy received the 2008 Honors of the Association award during the opening session of the convention, during which her commitment to and leadership of the association was highlighted. As a tribute to her dedication to listening and spoken language outcomes for children, the Leadership Opportunities for Teens participants featured her as someone they consider a role model and leader during their opening ceremony skit.

The convention's education program provided attendees an opportunity to learn about emerging practices and techniques in provided auditory-verbal therapy. In "AVT Videoconferencing for Teens," Melissa McCarthy and Jill Duncan discuss how technology, such as videoconferencing, is breaking the barriers of location. …
