This is a very unusual and interesting disc. First, it was recorded in Jimmy Bruno's house and with continuous takes. It creates both intimacy and also spontaneity. Then add to that the harmonics created by the three above instruments in the hands of very competent players and finally the tunes, with the exception of a variation of a J.S. Bach composition, all written by the three artists who perform them. Even the Bach item is arranged by Miceli.

First the three players need introduction. Bruno has been around for a long time now. He was born and raised in Philadelphia and has lived here most of his life save for a tenure on the West Coast about a decade or so ago. He is a powerful player and has been on many recordings both as leader and sideman. He worked with the Buddy Rich band on tour both here and the UK and backed various singers and other instrumentalists. On this particular recording though, he is much more subdued. His playing here is as you would probably hear him if he were in your home rather than a club or concert hall.

Tony Miceli is one fine vibes player. He has been on a few recordings. He is well known in the Philadelphia area and deserves a far wider reputation. I find his style closer to Red Norvo than say Lionel Hampton. Both his solo work and his accompaniment are in such good taste. Jeff Pedraz is a new name to me but like the other two, his playing fits in so nicely. He works both with bow and plucking and has a nice rich sound. The balance is remarkable.
