One of the most difficult instruments to play in jazz must be the trombone. Kai Winding was one of the most notable bop trombone players and he became famous playing that instrument in the Stan Kenton Band, but also in cooperation with Jay Jay Johnson, the other great trombonist. In 1956, when they had discontinued their Jay and Kai Band, Kai Winding founded his septet, which contained four trombones and a three men rhythm section. With this group they toured along university campus all over the country. Thanks to Lone Hill Jazz we can enjoy this great septet again thanks to the reissue of Trombone Panorama by The Kai Winding Septet. …
