This remarkable discograpny of what I would consider the flagship label of jazz recording has been published by Names & Numbers Discographical Publications. This is the third in a series of such instruments released in this form by this organization.

I could not think of two more competent people to work on this document that Mr. Cuscuna and Mr. Ruppli. The former has been associated one way or another with Blue Note and reissues of their various issues for nearly 35 years. The late Richard Cook, in his book Blue Note Records, published by Justin Charles and Co., refers to Mr. Cuscuna as "Blue Note Scholar par excellence". MichaelCuscuna's most successful venture has been the Mosiac packages. Michel Ruppli has been working in this discographic field probably more years then he wants to remember. His name is associated with the word "accuracy" Together they make a great team. What you now have here is the best possible work of this label so far. The basis of the CD ROM is the book on this label published by Greenwood Press in 1988 and then again collected by Cuscuna and compiled by Ruppli. They have been a team for many years.

You will find this disc made up of ten parts. The initial section is for me the very heart of Blue Note, that time when Alfred Lion and Frank Wolff produced one gem after the other during the years 1939 until mid 1967. …
