Is it that time of year already? Summer has been spirited away by the ringing of school bells, and for many of us with school-aged children we will once again resume the hectic schedule of school, lessons, play dates, and activities. My son enters middle school this year and we're hesitant about the arrival of adolescence and all that implies. However, we're excited about the opportunities this will bring for him, along with new teachers and an expanding circle of friends. Still, this also comes with some trepidation. Will his new teachers appreciate his quirky personality and accommodate his unique learning style and needs? And just because he is not boisterous and the first one to share in class, will his thoughts and opinions become lost in the shuffle? I would guess that I'm not alone in my duality of excitement and anxiousness. However, as my child's greatest advocate, I feel that I'm more prepared than ever to forge a partnership with his school and teachers to facilitate a good year for all. …
